Two-piece stoma care

The two-part ostomy fitting consists of an ostomy bag and a separate skin protection plate. The skin protection plate remains attached to the skin for a longer period of time, while the pouches can be connected and removed via a locking ring.

Closed systems are suitable for smaller and solid excretions. These are predominantly used by colestomy patients, as their excreted stool is more solid. Closed bags usually have an activated charcoal filter through which all intestinal gases can escape without odor.

Bags with a drainage opening are called "stripping bags" or "open system". The body waste collected in the bag is emptied through the drainage opening at the bottom of the collection bag. They are mainly used by ileostomy wearers, as the excreted stool is thinner in their case. The bag can thus be emptied without changing the entire supply.
