The flexible Suralis sensor sock can be pulled over any type of prosthetic foot. Five durable and wear-free sensors register contact with the ground and the rolling movement of the prosthetic foot and transmit these signals to a transmitter. This transmits the signals from the sensor sock wirelessly and in real time to the actuator unit on the residual limb. The actuator transmits the signals as different vibration patterns to the adjacent skin area of the residual limb. As a result, the prosthesis wearer can feel the gait pattern when walking and can precisely distinguish the rolling movement of the prosthetic foot. This increases gait stability and assurance and, according to the manufacturer, reduces phantom pain.
Due to the use of an ultra-low-power connection, the transmitter battery only needs to be charged once a week.
