The Montgomery long-term cannula made of silicone has a 27 degrees angled inner flange, which ensures that the tube remains in the horizontal position after placement in the trachea. Due to this very short inner flange, which is only in contact with the anterior tracheal wall, irritation of the trachea is significantly reduced compared to conventional tracheal cannulas. The cannula has a highly polished surface, which favors the epithelization of the tracheostomy. The correct cannula length is determined by measuring the stoma from the anterior tracheal wall to the outer stoma skin.
