GeloMuc is a breathing aid for expiratory exercises. Exhalation exercises with positive expiratory pressure (PEP) are used to clear secretions in patients suffering from acute and chronic diseases of the lungs.
The device consists of a main part with mouthpiece, funnel, stainless steel ball and unscrewable perforated headboard. Before exhaling, the ball closes the funnel. When exhaling the patient causes a positive pressure in the device and thereby also in the own airways until the pressure has risen so much that the ball rolls up the funnel wall. The air can escape and the pressure decreases. As a result, the ball falls back into the funnel and allows a new pressure build-up. A quick repetition of this sequence during exhalation leads to vibrations in the respiratory flow, to oscillations in the respiratory tract, which have an expectorant effect.
