This project is developing a specialist dictionary in German Sign Language (
DGS) for mathematics, physics, geosciences, chemistry, biology and medicine to improve the participation of deaf people in education and work.
The software displays specialist sign language on smartphones, tablets and PCs. Signing videos can be shared on social media using the “Share” function or downloaded and used offline. Additional information such as sign language, definition, specialist area and origin is available for each sign. New signs have been developed for many terms.
A team of linguists supports the linguistic quality and practicability. The software is being developed at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in cooperation with the Gamification and Open Source project group. Funding comes from the Federal Ministry of Labor.
Sign2MINT works together with Workplace Solutions (WPS), which means that no separate database solution needs to be financed. The results will be further developed in the joint project “Digital support for the professional integration of deaf people”.
