The cervical spine is an instable and additional rather complex area or the vertebral column. Small changes of the system can already lead to problems. The manifold movements of the cervical spine offer a lot of possibilities for the orthotic management of this region.

The orthotic device requires a basic knowledge of the functional anatomy as well as of the pathological changes including the biomechanical principles: not every region of the head is suited to serve as support area.

The position of the head is of major importance for the orientation in space. In order to fix the cervical spine not only the region between C1/C2 and C7 must be included. These aspects and other points if interest are treated in this article after a brief review of the anatomy of the spine.

Klassifizierung und Indikation von Halsorthesen

Die Halswirbelsäule ist ein instabiler, aber auch sehr komplexer Bereich unseres Achsenorgans. Schon kleine Veränderungen im System führen zu Problemen. So vielfältig wie die Bewegungen in der Halswirbelsäule, so weitreichend sind auch die Möglichkeiten, diesen Bereich orthetisch zu versorgen.

Dabei sind grundlegende Kenntnisse der funktionellen Anatomie, der pathologischen Veränderungen und der biomechanischen Prinzipien notwendig, um die entsprechenden Versorgungen durchführen zu können: Nicht jeder Bereich des Kopfes ist als Abstützfläche geeignet.

Die Stellung des Kopfes spielt für die Orientierung im Raum eine wichtige Rolle. Um die Halswirbelsäule ruhig zu stellen, muss mehr als nur C1/2 bis C7 eingefasst werden. Diese und andere Punkte werden nach einem kurzem Abriss der Anatomie im dem Artikel angesprochen.
