Hernia bandages, hernia girdle and hernia ligaments support and fix the abdominal wall in case of abdominal hernias.
The abdominal wall consists of muscles and fasciae (connective tissue muscle membranes) that protect the abdominal viscera from injury and support breathing, bowel movement and various body movements. If the pressure in the abdominal cavity rises due to pressing or lifting or if there is a weakness of the connective tissue, abdominal organs can protrude and cause a hernia. Hernias often occur on scars after abdominal surgery, on the navel or in the inguinal canal.
