Brakes for wheelchairs

Brakes on wheelchairs and accessories for wheelchairs allow you to lock a wheelchair when stationary and to reduce speed when driving.

Parking brakes are part of the necessary equipment of wheelchairs. Driving brakes such as drum brakes are used, for example, instead of manual braking via the handrims. Special one-hand brakes allow braking of both wheelchair tires with one hand. Brake lever extensions can be helpful if arm strength is reduced. Brakes for accompanying persons are operated by them via the push handles.
