Barrierefreie Gestaltung eines Schulgebäudes für einen Lehrer

Employer:

The employer is a gymnasium, which is subordinated to an authority or to the institution of municipal schools.

Disability and functional limitation of the employee:

The man is suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This leads to a progressive damage of the nerve cells responsible for the muscle movements and thus also to muscle weakness as well as shrinkage on the limbs. Its mobility and physical activity is limited by the disabled - this applies to walking, stairs and standing (over 90 minutes). He uses a walking aid or a walking stick for the movement, so that he can walk even shorter distances on a firm, flat surface. It is also desirable to avoid body loads caused by the carrying of loads (e.g. documents). Wearing loads should not be carried out with regard to the use of the walking aid and the danger of falling. The degree of disability is 100. Due to the incapacity for work within one year, an enterprise integration management was carried out. As a measure, a change in the organization of work and a suitable working environment as well as a workplace were developed and defined.

Training and job:

The man has been working for several years as a teacher for mathematics and physics at the employer.

Work organization:

Working hours were reduced to 17 hours per week. The assigned tasks can be carried out on one level or the first floor in the rooms there. There is no need for a permanent change of floors and the frequent return of stretched ones.

Work environment and mobility:

The teacher reaches the school building with his car, which he places on a designated parking lot near the gym. From the parking lot, he arrives over a short distance using his walking aid to the elevator in the building with the gym. He takes the elevator to the ground floor level. He no longer has to cross the steep staircase at the main entrance to get to the ground floor. From the ground floor it reaches the main staircase over several steps and from there on further steps to the first floor with its classrooms, the toilet, the secretariat and the library. Since he can no longer climb stairs due to the handicap, he uses a special staircase with seat for persons who have not yet been wheelchair-bound, which is secure at a specific place on the ground floor and on the first floor near the steps to be overcome. He uses a walker on the first floor and in the rooms, which also has a seat for resting, a basket for the transport of documents and a support for the walking stick. Since it is not a lot of floors and stairs, and the building is under monument protection, the staircase was given the advantage over a stair lift - the use of which would have been associated with rebuilding measures and a permanent narrowing of the stairwell.

Workplace:

At the workplace, an ergonomic office chair was provided to the teacher by the employer, so that long standing can be avoided by taking an ergonomic sitting position. For example, the teacher can also recover from the stresses of standing, even in the more active phases of the pupils, such as group work, work tasks, class work, etc.

Funding and participation:

The barrier-free design through the use of the rollator and the staircase unit was promoted by the Integrationsamt - thereby the employer did not have any economic advantage. The consultancy was carried out by the engineer's specialist for the disabled-oriented work design of the Integration Office - the so-called Technical Advisory Service.
