Disability and functional limitation:

The man is visually impaired. He can only read print magnified with a special visual aid. His degree of disability is 80.

Training and job:

He works as a semi skilled sorter for his employer.

Workplace and duties:

He works in the MAIL Branch in North Berlin. He is employed in a job rotation, this means after a distinct period of time he changes his workplace. Thus he is, among others, employed in the so-called "compact circle" or in "scrap", where parcels are sorted. As well as this he works on the automatic sorting machine which he fills or empties. To correct his visual disability he wears special half magnifying glasses with that he can see small objects and print enlarged like addresses on the mail to be sorted. The half magnifying glasses allow him as well as the enlargement, a good sense of space or good spatial orientation so that he does not for example stumble over a chair or other barriers. The half magnifying glasses were adapted to his visual needs by an optician.

Funding and participation:

The half magnifying glasses were 100% supported by the Office for vocational integration. The contact to the Office for vocational integration or specialist service for blind and visually impaired people, as well as coordination of the measures took place through a representative of the employer and the representative for employees with severe disabilities.
