Description:
The Larchel water therapy device enables laryngectomees to perform movement therapy in water and therapeutic swimming. It consists of a flexible corrugated tube connected to a blockable tracheostomy tube and a mouthpiece with bite blocks. The user inserts the mouthpiece into the mouth and breathes in through the nose. The air becomes the tracheostomy tube and enters the tracheostoma.
The tracheostomy tube with balloon prevents the ingress of water by inflating the balloon via a 10 ml syringe to seal the tube in the tracheostoma. A cannula support band stabilizes the fit of the cannula.
The Larchel is available in different sizes and the exact choice of cannula diameter should be made in consultation with the treating physician. A medical examination and a prescription for the aid is required before use. The use of the Larchel is not recommended for unstable tracheostomas.
