Building and housing
Building without barriers not only means enabling people with disabilities to be more independent, but also providing for old age. Structural accessibility ensures that building facilities can be used by everyone, regardless of age or disability.
Ideally, accessibility starts with building planning, but existing houses or apartments can also be retrofitted. The most important barrier-free criteria include compensating for differences in height, avoiding danger spots and providing satisfactory orientation. DIN standards have been issued for the equipment. DIN 18040-1 defines the barrier-free construction of public buildings and DIN 18040-2 the barrier-free construction of apartments.
