Workplace design for a judge with deafness

Employer:

The employer is the Ministry of Justice of a federal state.

Disability and functional restriction of the employee:

The man has an inborn hearing impairment, which worsened from the age of 20 - since then, the hearing status is stable at a low level. On the right side, he is provided with a cochlear implant (CI) and on the left with a hearing aid. In spite of the hearing aids, he must be able to read the lips of his interlocutor in support of direct verbal communication. Due to the disability, audible information (voice and signals) must be amplified, filtered or transformed (eg by a direct transmission into the hearing aids), so that they are audible despite interfering influences (eg noise, reverberation, distance, group conversation) can be perceived. Workplace and work duties:

The information is transmitted by the radio receiver directly inductively via the loop and without any noise or reverberation in the hearing aid.
The judge tested both systems over a period of three months, with the result that he could independently practice his profession by using the aid.

Support and participation:

The disability design was supported by the Integration / Inclusion Office and the hearing aid was subsidized by a maximum amount of aid to civil servants. The advice was provided by the Technical Advisory Service of the Integration and Inclusion Office and by a hearing care professional who was responsible for the sales as well as the settings of the aids. The tools for disability-friendly design were promoted by the person and are transferred to the employee's possession, so that he can take them along when changing workplaces.
