Layout of a parking place for a teacher suffering from Bechterew's disease

Disability and functional limitation of the woman:

She suffers from an inflammatory rheumatic disease (Bechterew's disease) of the spine and joints. Because of her disease she is generally limited in her ability to move (walking, grasping, etc.). Despite her disability she is able to walk in a limited way. Her degree of disability is 80 (GdB 80).

Training and career:

She works as a teacher at a primary school.

Work environment (actual status):

The school buildings are situated on the slope of a hill. Parking places are laid out behind the building, which are however only accessible from the entrance of the building via stairs and additional ramps. Because of her disability she cannot use the parking place. For this reason she parks in the lay-by near the school. The slope of the lay-by which is directly next to the street, is 50%. As she is disabled in walking there is a great danger of falling.

Work environment (desired status):

The lay-by near the school must be relayed and levelled to enable safe getting into and out of the car. With these measures, the side of the parking place has a raised vertical edge which must be bordered by curb-stones and secured by a railing.

Assistive devices used:

supporting handrails and grab bars

Support:

The disabled-friendly layout was 100% supported by the Main Welfare Office.
